Dear Mayor Clark and Honorable Members of the Council:

It is my opinion that the current Entertainment License is unduly restrictive and makes it tough for our restaurants, wine bars, and micro-breweries to have live music and prohibits outside music altogether.  I think you will find substantial support for amending or repealing the current ordinance and replacing it with a more reasonable ordinance like the ones you will find in almost every beach, and tourist city in California.

Similar ordinances of the cities of La Jolla, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Monterey, and Carmel by the Sea have shown success in balancing live music and homeowner needs bordering commercial and business districts.  I suggest that Carpinteria consider adopting the same ordinance that Carmel by the Sea has.

I would argue that if the Carmel by the Sea ordinance is good enough for that city it should be good enough for Carpinteria.  Carmel by the Sea has similar demographics.  There is one main street with very expensive homes literally adjacent to the establishments.  The ordinance is strongly supported by the local businesses and the local residents.

The time has come to give our local businesses the support they need and deserve in regard to providing live indoor and outdoor music.  Every other beach community does it.  It is time for Carpinteria to do it.  If you don't for whatever reason what Carmel by the Sea does, I have provided 5 other beach cities that you could adopt for Carpinteria the ordinance they have for their respective city.

I want to thank you for your time and consideration of this very important matter.
