Island Brewing Company Seeking Full-Time Assistant Brewer

Hey-O: We’re hiring!

The ideal candidate will have relevant brewing experience within a production brewery, outstanding communication and problem solving skills in addition to a keen eye for detail, the ability to follow SOPs, work well with others, and possess a deep love for beer.

 

The Assistant Brewer will put a premium on working safely and have  knowledge of safe handling practices within the space of the brewery. The nature of the work is manual involving lifting of 5 and 15.5-gallon kegs (165 lbs.) and 55 lb. grain bags. Safe operational knowledge of both fork lift and pallet jack is a plus.


Chief duties include:
-Assisting in all aspects of brewing, from staging grain, setting up hoses and valves, mash-in, rake-out, break down, and clean up. 
-Raw material management.
-CIP of fermenters, brewhouse, and brite tanks.
-Filtering with plate and frame 40 x 40.
-Labelling, bottling, kegging, canning and assisting with all other packaging.

-Maintaining clean and orderly work environment.

-Keg cleaning.

Additional duties may include:
-Maintaining jockey boxes, taps and draught lines for outside use.
 -Preventative maintenance and upkeep of tanks, pumps, compressors, and other machinery.
-Participating in critical assessment of beers, including sensory analysis.

-Ability to lift 55 lbs to shoulder height repeatedly.
-Ability to maneuver beer kegs (165 lbs).

Ideal Candidates will possess

-Previous experience in brewing/cellar of a least one year.

-Knowledge of Meheen bottling lines.

-Basic knowledge of carbonation/fluid dynamics.

-Forklift certification.

-Working knowledge of malt and hops.

-Microscope Skills.
